Dale Martin- Cartoonist And Man About Town

Some news to share from MSCA’s Dale Martin:

Hi, Memphis friends! Here’s your invitation to come out to the V&E Artwalk this Saturday, from 11-5. If you’ve never been before, this week’s Flyer sums it up pretty well: more than 50 artists “with exceptional creations in a variety of media … with something to find in everyone’s budget” … food trucks, a full bar, a silent auction, kids activity area, and local-favorite music throughout the day.

I’ll be set up with past favorites and all-new work, so come out and say hi! The V&E Artwalk is at Kirby Station, 1625 Tutwiler. FREE and open to all! Hope to see you there.

Thanks to all of you for contributing to our latest project! The “Funny Pages” issue of GB&S is full up and the call for entries is now closed. It’s about a month before our 11/5 deadline. If you have any questions about the specs, need a copy of our template, have any other problems, or just want feedback on a sticking point you find yourself struggling with, feel free to drop me a line. With the date for our “Funny Pages” gallery opening reception in flux, we have a little more wiggle room with our deadline, but sticking as close to that as possible (so we have time for editing and production and still beat the holiday rush with our printer), would be really helpful. We’re all coming up on some busy weeks over the next couple of months, so if I can help address any sticking points sooner rather than later it would be better.

This is looking like a really good issue! For those of you curious about what’s in store in this issue, let this whet your appetite: Courtney Dunn! Naim Hakeem! Ron Hicks! Katie Jones! Dale Martin! Eric McMeans! Jason Negen! Jim Palmer! Lee Raggs! Kevin L. Williams! Lin Workman! … and a couple of (good) surprises, too!

Of course, If you find yourself caught in a bind and won’t be able to finish, please drop me a line about that, too, so we can make needed adjustments.

Happy cartooning on this (and your other) projects!

Dale will also be set up at the annual Crosstown Concourse Record Swap & Zine Fest– Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

The event is free and open to the public., and you can not only buy zines, but make your own, too!

Dale is a Zine Fest veteran, but this will be my first one to set up at. I’ve attended before, but never had a table to sell my wares.

Dale and I will also have our art at the Memphis Monster Market downtown at The Medicine Factory ( 85 Virginia Ave W, ),  October 11-16. MSCA member Eric McMeans will be joining us there for the first time.

Don’t forget- art deadline for the next issue of MSCA zine, and the deadline to turn in art for the Funny Pages art show at Germantown Community Theatre will be our next dinner gathering at Garibaldi’s Pizza on Tuesday, November 5th.

Monthly meet-ups are free and open to the public- just bring a few bucks to order off the menu and be sure to introduce yourself. We always love to have folks bring along what they’ve been working on to show the group, talk toons, draw on jam pieces, work on tablets/laptops/sketchbooks, or doodle on napkins with us. We’ve also been known to have some fun freebies for attendees to enjoy. Be sure to help yourself or bring any promos you’d like to share with the group, and join us for our annual art swap at our December dinner meet-ups.
