Last night was our last 2024 MSCA Monthly Dinner Meet-up at Garibaldi’s Pizza. Monthly meet-ups are free and open to the public. Just bring a few bucks to order off the menu, and be sure to introduce yourself. We always love to have folks bring along what they’ve been working on to show the group, talk toons, draw on jam pieces, work on tablets/laptops/sketchbooks, or doodle on napkins with us!
This event was also our MSCA Annual Holiday Art Swap. MSCA members are encouraged to bring a print, zine, comic, book, or piece of original art they’d like to trade with another member at the dinner meet-up. Numbers are drawn at random and each member gets to go home with a prize. We’ve also been known to have some fun freebies for attendees to enjoy. Be sure to help yourself or bring any promos you’d like to share with the group.
Each piece was totally different, and Dale even wrapped his gift entry.
Inside was one of his Egyptian themed prints and zines!
Eric was sporting a “cool” Star Wars/Hoth Christmas sweater, and Michael brought some delicious chocolate covered pretzels.
Lots of great gifts were available for choosing by members.
Dale even won Kevin’s original art for our 10th issue of “The Good, The Bad, and the Sketchy” zine.
Speaking of our zine, we’ve got two new ones that were distributed to participating members at the meet-up. Issues #10 & #11 feature “The Funny Pages” parts 1 & 2.
You can purchase a copy of them at comic shops around town, such as Comics & Collectibles, The Cellar Tabletop Games & Comics, and both locations of 901 Comics (Cooper/Young in midtown and Macon Road in Cordova). Lots of other locally created comics are on the shelves, too.
You can also find our zines in the lobby of the Germantown Community Theatre, or at the MSCA’s Toonfest in the GCT rehearsal hall on Saturday, December 14th from 10am-2pm. It’s a free event, and open to the public.
“The Funny Pages” art show at GCT will be on display through the end of the year and into January.
Our next MSCA Monthly Dinner Meet-up will be on January 7, 2025 at Garibaldi’s Pizza near the U of M again.
We meet in person on the first Tuesday of each month from 6-8pm at Garibaldi’s, which is located at 3530 Walker Ave. across the street from Tiger Bookstore and near the Highland Strip and R/R tracks off Southern Avenue.
If you have any kids that are interested in getting into cartooning please bring them out. If you are a kid, please have a parent attend with you. If you’re not sure about meeting a group of sketchy strangers all by yourself, then feel free to bring along a friend with you. We’re the group in the large room on the right.
Oh, and mark your calendars for our first MSCA Sat-Art-Day of the year out at 901 Comics East And Games. We’ll be in the gaming area of the comic shop on Saturday, January 25th from 10am-2pm.
