“Light The Signal!” – Recent Sat-Art-Day, Batman Day, And Upcoming MSCA Dinner

It’s fall, y’all..! Lots of things are ahead, including my favorites…fall weather and Halloween related events!

This weekend we said goodbye to summer and had our last MSCA Sat-Art-Day for 2024 out at 901 Comics East.

It was also Batman Day (Sept. 21) and the comic shop was offering 3 different free Batman comics for anyone who came in.

They will be doing something similar for the Halloween Comic Fest and next month (follow 901 Comics East’s Faccebook page for more info).

We had a good turnout for the event, and even had a few new folks join us- as well as some kids who wanted to draw and color with their parents while in the shop

We had extra art supplies on hand for them to use. I recently organized them and put our art stash in the new gaming tables at 901.

Lots of different art was created in the 4hrs while we were out east in Cordova.

Everything from Naim working on animation in a laptop…

…to Jason sketching in his sketchbook.

Kevin and I worked on some sketchcards, and Eric practiced his inking skills.

We also discussed a lot about the future of the MSCA events, publications, promotions, and more. Dale is looking for someone to take over the editing responsibilities for group zine, we’re looking to create an MSCA mascot, and are planning some new promotional materials for the group. Keep an eye out for future group emails from Kevin and “stay tooned” to the Drawing Funny podcast for more details on them all and how you can get involved.

Our next event is our monthly dinner meet-up at Garibaldi’s Pizza on Walker Ave. near Tiger Bookstore and the U of M.

We meet in the big room on the right from 6-8pm on the first Tuesday of each month. The event is free and open to the public, but be sure to bring some money to order off their menu. Also be sure to bring some of your art to show around and please introduce yourself to the group.

There’s lots more happening this fall and into the holidays. Click here for more info, or check out our Facebook page. If you know of anything you’d like to share with the group hit MSCA president Kevin L. William up on our MSCA email at midsouthcartoonists@gmail.com.
