MSCA Sat-Art-Day And Drink-N-Draw Are Back At 901 Comics East!

Hey, gang- MSCA Sat-Art-Day and Drink-N-Draw events are back at 901 Comics East this summer!

First up is our Sat-Art-Day on July 20th. Join members of the MSCA at 901 Comics East on Macon Road from 10am-2pm. We’ll be sketching and working on art projects while talkin’ toons and sharing art techniques.

Be sure to bring along a sketchbook, drawing tablet, portfolio, or feel free to use some of our art supplies we’ll have on hand- great opportunity to try different mediums and techniques as well as ask/share art advice and find out info on other upcoming events at the store and around town.

The drawing event is free and open to the public, but anyone not old enough to drive themselves to the event needs to have a parent attend with them. They’re free to draw with us, take notes, or just hang out. Be sure to bring a few bucks if you’d like to enjoy any beverages and/or snacks from 901 Comics’ “The Bar With No Name“.

Next month on Wednesday, August 14th we’ll have the return of the MSCA’s Drink-N-Draw from 6-8pm at 901 Comics East.

This drawing event is also free and open to the public, and like the Sat-Art-Day event bring a few bucks to order a beverage and/or something to eat. Beer, sodas, water, chips, cookies, pizza and more will be available for purchase at “the bar with no name…” You must be 21+ to drink, and anyone not old enough to drive themselves to the event needs to have a parent attend with them.

Like at Sat-Art-Day we’ll be sketching and working on art projects while talkin’ toons and sharing art techniques. Bring along your sketchbook, notebook, drawing tablet, portfolio, comic pages, sketchcards, or feel free to use some of our art supplies we’ll have on hand- and don’t be shy to ask/share art advice at the events.

Lots of things have been changing at 901 Comics East including the location of new comics and back issues in the store.

“Crazy” deals on key issues are available near the front counter and on the wall books around the store. Customers can also find out more about the Mid-South Cartoonists Association and local comic creators.

The local creator comics have been moved to an endcap for now, but will be getting their own special section in the near future. “Stay tooned” for new Bad Dog Comics at 901 Comics including “Raptor Boy” and “Stoned Ninja“.

One of a kind hand-drawn sketchcards by me and the MSCA’s “The Good, The Bad, And The Sketchy” zine are available near the front counter.

You can also find plenty of sketchcover blanks in store, and a few hand drawn ones for sale, too. If you’re interested in getting started working on sketchcovers be sure to ask Lin (me)– always happy to help locate a title for you, and/or share advice and techniques.

There is now an all ages reader section including kid friendly and young adult comics, novels, choose your own adventure books, and more. The manga/anime section of the store will soon be expanding, as will the gaming section where we’ll be having our drawing events. There’s also plans for more additions to the shop.

Oh, and 901 Comics East also has Nerd Night Trivia on Thursday evenings (you can win prizes and get 15% off merch), and a Comic Book Reading Club every-other Wednesday night (members get 20% off that month’s book).

Hope to see you out there!
