“…Just Don’t Call Me Late For Late For Dinner!” – Next MSCA Monthly Dinner July 2nd

From MSCA president Kevin L. Williams:

Greetings MSCA’ers,

DINNER GATHERING

Our next dinner gathering will be Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Garibaldi’s Pizza, 3530 Walker Ave, from 6 – 8 pm.

Monthly meet-ups are free and open to the public- just bring a few bucks to order off the menu and be sure to introduce yourself and show your art around.

We always love to have folks bring along what they’ve been working on to show the group, talk toons, draw on jam pieces, work on tablets/laptops/sketchbooks, or doodle on napkins with us! If you have any kids that are interested in getting into cartooning please bring them out.

If you are a kid, please have a parent attend with you. If you’re not sure about meeting a group of sketchy strangers all by yourself, then feel free to bring along a friend with you. We’re the sketchy group in the large room on the right.

For more info check out our Facebook events here. I do plan to be there, so I hope you will be there, too!

GERMANTOWN COMMUNITY THEATRE

Monday and Tuesday, some help will be needed for the painting of the stage walls for Antigone, a “modernized, punk rock retelling of the old Sophocles play.”  Projection of the art onto the walls will begin on July 1, 2024, Monday morning, about 10am, and continue through 4pm that day.  To learn how you can help, please contact David Galloway at david@ghostlightscenicdesignco.com.

The set design needs a little extra detailed touch (see above).  The GCT will share information about the MSCA in the Antigone program!

(The next email will be about The Funny Pages” art show in December at GCT!!)

GLASS SLIPPERS ART SHOW RECAP

The Glass Slippers” art show reception was held on Wednesday, June 12th in the lobby of remodeled Theatre Memphis.

We’ll share more details at the next dinner gathering, but 5 of our 15 pieces sold by Wednesday 6/26. I hope you had a chance to see “Cinderella” at Theatre Memphis – it was glorious! Show ends this Sunday.

Unsold art can be picked up at the dinner gathering at Garibaldi’s.

Nicki and Lin took a day trip up to Metropolis, IL for the final day of the annual Superman Celebration. It was about a 3 1/2hr drive to the official home of Superman. They ran into our good friends Jim and Christina Hall, and Adam and Penny Shaw in Artists Alley and did a bit of catching up with the former MSCA members.

If you have news posted somewhere, please send me a link!  If you have news, please get it to me before the next newsletter which will go out July 30th.  Anything before then, I’ll try to be sure it gets posted to our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/midsouthcartoonists/.
