Congratulations to Martheus Antone Wade for winning the Richard Wright Literary Award in the “Best Graphic Novel” category for Shinobi: Ninja Princess: Dark Tournament.
Richard Wright (1908-1960) was one of the most significant southern Black authors of the 20th century. He is best known for his autobiographical book Black Boy and his novel Native Son.
The award event happened at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library (main library) on March 22, 2024, and was hosted by ABC24’s Yvonne Cooper. Memphis Libraries’ Jody Callahan presented the award.

And speaking of the Memphis Libraries, the 2nd Annual Library Con is happening at the main library on Poplar on Saturday, May 18th from 10-3pm. The event is free to the public.
Team Toshigawa (Martheus, Janet and Anakin Wade, and Kevin L. Williams) along with many of the MSCA will be set up at the show. Guests include comic creators Matt Wagner and Gene Ha. Last year’s first ever Library Con was a huge success, and this one is building up to be even bigger!
